Residual stresses are mechanical stresses that develop in the injection-molded part during the individual phases of the injection molding cycle. They remain embedded in the part even after ejection from the mold cavity and throughout the part’s lifecycle.
Knowledge of residual stresses in injection-molded parts is fundamental for predicting and eliminating post-production deformations. Residual stresses have a significant impact on part dimensional accuracy, stiffness, chemical resistance, and potentially optical properties.
