Residual stresses are mechanical stresses generated in an injection-molded part due to internal forces. They are mostly generated during the injection molding cycle. They remain embedded in the molded part even after ejection from the mold cavity.
Knowledge of residual stresses in injection-molded parts is fundamental for predicting and eliminating their deformations. Residual stresses significantly affect the dimensional accuracy of the part, stiffness, chemical resistance, and optical properties.
